The Wired article is mostly a rehash of this one from The Economist, also written by Anderson (and which a most aggrieved commenter failed to notice, and thus chided Wired for publishing plagiarised articles).
Why the reprint? Because Anderson's new book is ready, and it seems to be his rule of thumb to only publish books after their seed has been printed by Wired. Here's Anderson's own announcement thereof.
