It's Football Season

Our good friends at ESPN put together a list of what they think are the best college football games in 2006. I'm making my predictions on these games. Those who would like to keep score may do so. I'll update as we get the results in.

Northwestern at Miami (OH) - Aug 31

I missed out on this one. NWU won 21-3 in the Randy Walker Legacy Game, not easily, according to the reports.

Notre Dame at Georgia Tech - Sept 2

Prediction: Notre Dame suffered horribly in the Fiesta Bowl because their secondary couldn't keep up with Ted Ginn, Jr. and Troy Smith. Calvin Johnson and Reggie Ball aren't too far behind. Notre Dame suffers again.

Result: ND 14 - 10 GATech

Florida State at Miami (Sept 4)

Prediction: This should be the last game on the ACC schedule, but it's the first. Miami's a program struggling to meet the always-high expectations. FSU's got older and wiser Drew Weatherford, and a nasty D. You do the math.

Result: FSU 13 - 10 Miami

Ohio State at Texas (Sept 9)

Prediction: Brand-new defense at OSU, brand-new QB at Texas. I'm picking the defense to keep the Horns down. Payback's a bitch, baby. Oh, and don't forget the inside track to the Championship.

Result: OSU 24 - 7 Texas

Penn State at Notre Dame (Sept 9)

Prediction: The Lions snuck up on their opponents last season. Everybody knows about them now. Quinn for the win.

Result: ND 41 - 17 PSU

LSU at Auburn (Sept 16)

Auburn's a dark-horse championship contender. LSU brings back JaMarcus Russell. Tough pick, this. I'm going with Auburn.

Result: Auburn 7 - 3 LSU

Clemson at Florida State (Sept 16)

Tommy hasn't ever won a Bowden Bowl. Nothing changes.

Result: Clemson 27 - 20 FSU

Miami (FL) at Louisville (Sept 16)

Upset alert. Louisville is a program that has come of age. I believe in Brett Brohm.

Result: Louisville 31 - 7 Miami (FL)

Michigan at Notre Dame (Sept 16)

History matters more here than anything else, since GATech would have taken care of ND's championship hopes. But Quinn still wins.

Result: UM 47 - 21 ND

Florida at Tennessee (Sept 16)

Tennessee is losing more people than they can afford. They should have been back this year, but it seems they'll have to wait. Looks like the leaks are on the wrong side.

Result: Florida 21 - 20 UT

Oklahoma at Oregon (Sept 16)

Adrian Peterson and the new uniforms are two reasons why the Ducks suck.

Result: Oregon 34 - 33 Oklahoma

Texas Tech at TCU (Sept 16)

It's always tough to pick a TCU game. Powderpuff schedules always misrepresent their strength. I'm going with Tech because they play more with the big boys.

Result: TCU 12 - 3 Texas Tech

Nebraska at USC (Sept 16)

USC are a lot closer to the championship than Nebraska, even after losing half their team from a year ago. Close game, lots of points, USC wins.

Result: USC 28 - 10 NU

Arizona State at Cal (Sept 23)

QB U vs. QB U. Who cares about defense? Cal, probably because they get the ball last.

Result: Cal 47 - 21 ASU

Ohio State at Iowa (Sept 30)

The two best offensive teams in the Big Ten. The Hawkeyes have what it takes to win this, but as we used to (and they still do) say in Columbus, "In Tressel We Trust".

Result: OSU 38 - 17 Iowa

Southern Methodist at Tulane (Sept 30)

Feel-good drama of the season. Welcome back, Louisiana Superdome. Missed ya.

Result: SMU 33 - 24 Tulane

Oklahoma vs. Texas (Oct 7)

Texas. OU has the mess they didn't need. Not even Adrian Peterson can stop this woodshed beating.

Result: UT 28 - 10 OU

Florida at Auburn (Oct 14)

Auburn's balance gets on top of Florida, on both sides of the ball. How fast can Florida score, because they're not going to get too much ball time.

Result: Auburn 27 - 17 Florida

Texas at Nebraska (Oct 21)

Probably a Big XII Championship game preview, but Texas has too much going for them for this to be a contest. Maybe next year, the Huskers will be better.

Result: UT 22 - 20 NU

Iowa at Michigan (Oct 21)

I never pick Michigan in a Big Ten game. It's the Buckeye blood.

Result: UM 20 - 6 Iowa

Florida vs. Georgia (Oct 28)

Cocktail Party time. Florida upsets Georgia and gets inside track for the BCS game.

Result: Florida 21 - 14 UGA

West Virginia at Louisville (Nov 2)

Mountaineers climb one more towards the top. Close one, though.

Result: Louisville 44 - 34 WVU

Virginia Tech at Miami (Nov 4)

Miami's not a happy camper. Beamer-ball seems to fail in Miami. Someone's asking for trouble in the Orange Bowl.

Result: VT 17 - 10 UM

South Carolina at Florida (Nov 11)

Spurrier Bowl. This time, though, Spurrier's not living in the Swamp, where only the Gators survive.

Result: Florida 17 - 16 USC

West Virginia at Pittsburgh (Nov 16)

Backyard Brawlin', but Mountaineers march on.

Result: WVU 24 - 16 Pitt

Auburn at Alabama (Nov 18)

Iron Bowl! Alabama bleeds Crimson after being clawed by Tigers.

Result: AU 22 - 15 UA

Michigan at Ohio State (Nov 18)

No, really. Haven't you figured it out yet?

Result: OSU 42 - 39 UM

Cal at USC (Nov 18)

The Bears, under the radar, come very, very close to springing the big surprise on the Trojans. No cigar, though.

Result: USC 23 - 9 Cal

Texas A&M at Texas (Nov 24)

Aggies aren't much of a threat these days, particularly when it comes to Texas.

Result: TAMU 12 - 7 UT

Florida at Florida State (Nov 25)

The Gators won last year, but that was when FSU wasn't much of an offensive team.

Result: Florida 21 - 14 FSU

Notre Dame at USC (Nov 25)

Rose Bowl preview. ND has come very close in the past. This time, it's Quinn again for the win, and the game that gets him the Heisman.

Result: USC 44 - 24 ND

Army vs. Navy (Dec 2)

Not the big game of the season, but it's always fun to watch the academies get together.

Result: Navy 26 - 14 Army

Now, I'm no expert and I'm very biased, but I'd like to see how this set of predictions pans out.
